Patent Registration Process in Bhutan (As Per Official Workflow)
Patent registration begins with the filing of a patent application on Form PT-1, accompanied by a description, claims, drawings (where required), and an abstract. Upon receipt, the Patent Registry conducts a minimum filing check to confirm that essential elements are present.

If deficiencies are identified, the applicant is issued a correction notice and must rectify the deficiencies within the prescribed time. Once minimum requirements are met, the Registrar accords a filing date and enters the application into the Industrial Property Automation System.

The application then undergoes a formality examination, followed by substantive search and examination, typically conducted with assistance from international examining authorities such as WIPO. Examination reports are reviewed by the Registrar, and applicants may be required to submit clarifications, amendments, or responses to objections.

If the application satisfies all statutory requirements, the Registrar issues a notification requesting payment of grant and publication fees. Upon payment, a reference to the grant is published in the Official Bulletin, and the Patent Certificate is issued. The patent becomes enforceable from the date of publication of the grant.
